A simple, wholesome dinner for the whole family. Our version uses the finest local premium beef mince, A-grade carrots and wonderful Italian tomatoes all finished with fresh basil and shaved parmesan. 

30 Minutes. Perfect for the whole family.

Serves 2.

400g premium beef mince
1 free range egg
1 small carrot
2 sprigs basil
1.5 tablespoons dried oregano
1 clove of garlic
1 tinned diced Italian tomatoes
1 teaspoon sugar
1 small brown onion
3/4 cup shaved parmesan
250g spaghetti

Make meatball mix
In a bowl, combine beef mince, egg, dried oregano, finely grated carrot, salt and pepper and combine well. Divide mince into equal portions and roll into small golfball sized balls.

Cook meatballs
Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a heavy based pot or casserole dish over medium heat, add roughly chopped onion, garlic and sugar. Sauté until soft. Remove from pan and set aside. Add extra oil, enough to cover the base of the pan, and lightly brown meatballs on all sides but do not cook through. 

Prepare tomato sauce
Return sautéed onions to the pot with meatballs and diced tomatoes.  Bring to the boil and then reduce heat to simmer for 20 minutes, partly covering it with the lid. 

Cook spaghetti
Fill a large pot 3/4 full of water and bring to a rapid boil with a tablespoon of salt. Add pasta, stirring frequently for a minute and bring back to the boil. Cook for 7 minutes from the time the pasta begins to boil. Check it is al dente, drain and quickly place back in pot with tomato sauce. Toss gently to combine.

To serve
Place in bowls and top with fresh basil leaves and shaved parmesan.
